The mallets have quality handles with threading that actually makes a good connection to the head. The bag is large enough that the mallets can remain assembled and the wickets and stakes are equally well made. The mallet heads do dent/mar from striking the balls. However, it's not really a damaging marring, more like you can tell they've been used. The neighbors and I play croquet alot...first night with this set we played 4 games...again "omg this is a great set". Can't really say anything other than I really don't think anyone will be disappointed with this set if they are a typical weekend/liesure player of the game that wants a set that will last multiple summers.
